I was pilfering through my files on my computer (well, technically, it's not mine - for which I'm glad of, for it's rather cruddy) - and came across Femme Fatale
Author’s Notes: This was written as a response to a question I was asked in my mid-year paper for the English Extension One course, year twelve. As a class, we were studying the Crime Fiction genre, one of our prescribed texts being The Big Sleep. The question asked for us to write a narrative using the conventions of the crime fiction genre to place one of the characters from one of our prescribed texts in a contemporary context. I chose Carmen Sternwood from The Big Sleep, the director’s cut (with Humphrey Bogart as Marlowe). My teacher loved my response, and I received 24 out of 25 for my effort.
A special mention is deserved for Michael, who gave me the idea for the murder in this piece.
Disclaimer: I do not own Carmen Sternwood, who belongs entirely to Raymond Chandler, his publishing company, and whichever other parties that are involved in the rights to Carmen Sternwood and The Big Sleep. However, James Delangey, Sargent Hold and the oppurtunistic Robert Lowe are creations that are entirely my own. This is not set in a specific city.
Warning: This piece has a rape scene, and the discovery of a murdered body. It is somewhat graphic, and I do not advise you to read it if you are opposed to these in fictional work.
Rated: NC-17 for the aforementioned scenes and mild profanity.
( Femme FataleCollapse )
If you did read it, I hope you enjoyed it. If not, well, that's fine. I'm not expecting any one to.
For those of you who know me very well, and are shocked at the work I have produced - let me say this, CONTEXT! Believe me, I was just as shocked when Mrs. G read it out in class after we received the exam back, realising just how graphic and seedy it was.
A Reminder for the Less Morally Scrupled: This work is my own, belongs to me, and deserves your respect. In other words, do not steal it and claim it as your own. Plagiarism (as the Bored of Studies resource section claims) is an evil sin.
